Position Summary:

The Director of Finance is responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in aligning financial reserves with the mission and vision of the organization and for identifying concrete ways to engage in increasing financial reserves and cost-savings, such that GSNI-M continues to be a stable, sustainable organization with longevity. 

Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will help to define the process and implement the infrastructure/systems needed to support growth and sustainability over the next five to ten years. She or he will build and manage effective and streamlined administrative /financial systems, including financial, accounting, and physical infrastructure. 

The Director of Finance ensures that the Council’s program and service facilities/sites are in good condition and provides overall leadership and guidance to camp Site Managers for the efficient operations of the GSNI-M property portfolio. The incumbent directs the development of tactical planning for the maintenance of the Council’s facilities/sites which includes directing the creation of maintenance schedules, approving projects and expenditures and overseeing vendor services and outside contracts.

As a member of the management team, the Director of Finance will be involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives.

Essential Duties:

Financial Management:

• Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics.

• Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.

• Hire and manage accounting and finance support teams.

• Coordinate all audit activities.

Property Management:

• Hire and manage the Site Managers for camp properties.

• Ensure that all Council program and service facilities are safe and operational.

• Partner with the Program Team to ensure that properties are appropriate to deliver high quality programs.

• Provide supervision & guidance for Site Managers and other contracted help.

• Ensure maintenance, repair, and replacement of properties / equipment as needed to support programming.

• Ensure that Council-owned property, vehicles, and equipment are in good working order.

• Create Requests for Proposals and negotiates bids and contracts for property, equipment and materials as needed and according to budget.

• Oversee the preparation of the annual property operating and capital budgets with supporting detail and rationale for integration into the Council’s annual operating and capital budget.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Administrative Leadership and Management:

• Serve as a business partner to the CFO and CEO on the organization’s financial, budgeting, and administrative processes-including payroll and benefits functions-with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management or Finance

Knowledge and Experience:

• At least five to eight years of professional experience including managing the finance and administration of a high-growth $1 million to $5 million organization (preference given to nonprofit experience).

• Experience in creating and driving the analytic framework for planning and managing organizational change in a highly entrepreneurial organization.

• Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector.

• Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.

• Experience with project management utilizing tools such as Asana.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:

• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).

• Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

• Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.

• Occasional need to stand for extended periods of time.

• Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.

• Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment.

• Travel may expose employees to inclement weather conditions.

• Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel to various work and meeting locations to meet with volunteers and staff.

• Insurable under the Council’s policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance. 

• Dependable transportation is a must.

• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed

• Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff and volunteers.
