Who We Are

The Girl Coalition of Indiana (Girl Co.) is an unprecedented collaboration between six existing Girl Scout councils serving girls in the state of Indiana focused on building new and creative initiatives to expand Girl Scouting. A team of full-time, girl-focused staff will partner with each local Girl Scout council as well as youth-serving organizations and others to reach more girls living in low-income communities across the state.

The Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana (GSNI-M) serves about 4,000 girls with 2,200 volunteers in 22 counties, representing 20 counties in the northern one-third of Indiana and two counties in southwest Michigan. GSNI-M provides opportunities for girls to discover their strengths, connect with others, and take action to improve their communities. Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent leadership development organization for girls, building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout’s vision is that every girl in Indiana lives her best life physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. To work towards this vision, we have identified three bodies of work: understand the unique needs of girls and families in low-income communities, ideate innovations in delivery systems and internal processes that welcome more girls in low-income households to benefit from Girl Scouts, and become an integral part of the overall support system for girls within communities.

What You Will Do

The Community Connection Manager, a grant-funded position, listens, gathers ideas, and develops relationships to identify and facilitate engagement opportunities that lead to connecting more Indiana girls to Girl Scouting. This position creates a network of inputs to inform solutions from girls, their families, and community organizations, testing possible solutions to maximize opportunities for girls.

The Community Connection Manager is part of the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana team working to expand access to Girl Scouting to girls from low-income or similarly underserved communities. This position is also part of a team of community-based girl advocates across the State of Indiana sharing ideas and best practices, building on each other’s insights and successes.
